Not Just A Bookstore opened its doors December 1, 2007 at the corner of Delmar & Hamilton in a newly revitalized area of the Delmar Loop. Since opening Connie & Richard Cheek saw the need of going out to the community to help build on their motto "Our Journey To Literacy". They have become something different than just bookstore owners, they are advocates for literacy.
In this journey they have met many new people and a host of new friends along the way they have shared their vision. Connie eagerly works very hard behind the scenes as she is constantly talking and selling her vision to many with how their bookstore can help be a part of the solution to the literacy problem in America. Connie has been in attendance with The Literacy Roundtable Group monthly meetings since June of 2009 but had to take a the backseat when her dreams started to fade away with the closing of their location on Delmar in October 2009. But that didn't stop Connie, she enrolled in College has earned her Assoicates Degree and is now completing her BS Degree in Business and expects her date of completion to beJuly 2012. Connie is very excited about getting back on board again with the Literacy Roundtable Group and Ready Readers with the opening of their new location at 4507 Manchester St. Louis, MO in the beautiful Grove Neighborhood.
Their dream is too have many bookstores like this in several different states where literacy is declining at failing rates. Connie said "It's not about what people can do to help us it's about what can NJABS do to help the communities".
They hope to bring the local authors back to their home at Not Just A Bookstore's new location and will again host regular book signings, business networking, business building meetings, birthday parties, Friday Night Jazz featuring Fred "Saxxy Jazz" Walker and Spoken Word/Poetry Nights.
